If you’re looking for safe and painless chiropractic care to alleviate your neck and back pain without the twisting and popping, then NUCCA might be the right choice for you.
You are probably familiar with traditional chiropractic. The twisting and popping we normally associate with chiropractic can be comforting to some; but it can be really intimidating for others.
NUCCA stands for the National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association. The Association was founded in 1966, but the fundamentals of the technique have been around for generations. NUCCA is safe, painless, and non-invasive.
But How Does NUCCA Chiropractic Work?
NUCCA focuses on correcting misalignment of the upper cervical spine. Precise and objective x-ray views of the head and neck are used to make mathematical measurements and evaluation of the misalignment.
Through proper analysis of the x-rays, the doctor can identify the relationship between posture and upper cervical misalignment. Because the NUCCA technique pinpoints the cause of misalignment, there is less need for repeated corrections. The body wants to heal itself. Thus, returning the bones of the neck to a normal position promotes proper function in the body and the spine.
What Happens When I Visit a NUCCA Doctor?
At Precision Spinal Care we offer a consultation to make sure NUCCA is a good match for your needs. The consultation gives the doctor a chance to learn about your situation, make some measurements, and discuss the potential of NUCCA treatment for you.
What Makes NUCCA Different
Precise measurements of your spinal balance are taken. These measurements are used to determine if you have a significant imbalance that requires correction. These measurements also are used to determine the progress of your spinal stability on follow-up visits and help in determining when another spinal correction is needed.
- Diagnosis and treatment is based on precision x-ray analysis, orthopedic and biomechanical measurements.
- The principles of diagnostic testing using computerized measurements is recognized by the AMA and there is ongoing NUCCA research.
- NUCCA has an organization (Upper Cervical Research Foundation) that conducts ongoing research and its work has been published in peer reviewed medical journals.
What Is a NUCCA Treatment?
Treatments and corrections to the spine are light and gentle, requiring only subtle adjustments of the upper cervical region of the neck. The correction is based on the measurements obtained from the x-rays.
The doctor will apply a light and subtle pressure that will move the spinal bones of the neck very carefully. There is no discernable pushing or twisting in the correction, nothing rapid or abrupt. The patient will often feel light pressure at the point of contact. The correction usually takes a few minutes to perform.
Because it’s important to receive the best possible correction, the doctor will take two post x-rays following the initial correction. These films will objectively show the doctor how the spine responded. The post x-ray is typically done only after your first correction; however, if the correction needs to be modified during your treatment, subsequent x-rays may be taken only if medically necessary. The better the spinal correction is, the better the chance you have for recovery.
